BEST OF THREE – SAPPHIRE RINGS
Kate Middleton brought sapphire rings back into the public conscious upon her engagement to Prince William – but truth be told, this deep blue stone has been a favourite of gem lovers for years. Although tone of colour is subjective and comes down to personal taste, a rich, royal blue is considered the most desirable tone – and the colour is often shown matched with diamonds to dazzling effect. This month at O’Reilly’s, there are (literally) lots of sapphires to choose from, in all shapes, sizes and settings. Find three of our favourites, below.
Lot 82: A FINE QUALITY DIAMOND AND SAPPHIRE THREE STONE RING, the oval sapphire to two brilliant cut diamonds, mounted in white gold. This ring is truly spectacular; the centre stone weighs just under 4carats, and its rich blue hue is backed up by a report to confirm the colour is natural – exactly how it would have been found in the ground! A sparkling diamond either side makes this a very substantial, special piece.
Lot 205: A DIAMOND AND SAPPHIRE CLUSTER RING, the oval sapphire to a brilliant cut diamond surround, mounted in 18ct gold. This is a great example of that iconic style as sported by the Duchess of Cambridge. It’s a particularly beautiful choice for those who like showstopper rings at an accessible pricepoint; the top estimate of just €2000 makes this ring excellent value, and the classic setting will never go out of fashion.
Lot 80: AN ANTIQUE DIAMOND AND SAPPHIRE ETERNITY RING, 18ct white gold engraved ring mount. For those who want just a smattering of blue, look no further than this eternity band – mixing the traditional diamonds in with sapphires offers a vintage feel that would look perfect both worn alone or as part of a luxurious stack.
