Floral Jewellery

15 September

Splashed all over the autumn-winter 2015 catwalks, floral brooches are set to make a comeback in a big way. Prada went bold and colourful; playing on retro 1960s shapes and styles, while Dolce & Gabbana went fine and delicate, weaving gold and pearl studded confections in the models’ hair.

Our favourite tips from the catwalk? Don’t just wear one brooch; pile a few on at the same time! A few clustered together on a lapel makes a great impact.  And if you’re not sure about wearing them the traditional way? Pin them into an upstyle for a fresh take – the sparkle will add a touch of unexpected glamour when en route to a fancy function (and we particularly love this look on brides)!

Luckily, (and just on time for the new season), there are some beautiful examples of floral brooches at O’Reilly’s. Here, three of our favourites:

1) The dense gold and incredible sparkle of Lot 204 makes it ideal to liven up a heavy tweed jacket. A FINE QUALITY FLORAL BASKET BROOCH, set with ruby, sapphire, turquoise, and diamonds, all mounted in 18ct gold

2) The contemporary, clean lines and rich rubies of  Lot 203 make this brooch a glamorous accessory for cocktail hour. A RUBY AND DIAMOND BROOCH, modelled as a flower, mounted in white gold. Together with jewellery report stating the rubies to weigh; 4.50 ct, of Burmese origin, with no evidence of heat treatment

3) The old-cut diamonds and dainty setting of Lot 171 make it light enough to pin into a formal hairstyle, for added sparkle. AN ANTIQUE DIAMOND AND SAPPHIRE BROOCH, floral spray design, mounted in yellow gold
