Tanzanite in O’Reilly’s
“Tanzanite is an extraordinary gemstone. It is name after its source, Tanzania, where it was originally discovered in the 1960s – and this East Africa state it is still the only place where Tanzanite can be found.
Tiffany & Co. were the first to discover and sell this gem – for a long time it was sold exclusively by the legendary American jeweller. Its deep blue hue has a hint of purple – in its finest form it is often compared to sapphire, although the tone of Tanzanite does have a different richness. It is a clean, clear stone with great durability – but it is its vibrant colour that makes it the perfect choice for special occasion pieces such as a cocktail ring or striking necklace. It is extremely popular in the United States, where it often commands a high price; in the forthcoming auction of 22nd October at O’Reilly’s, there are some beautiful examples at great value to be seen.”
